THE GOLDEN TOPAZ
OF RADIANT LIGHT
A THELEMIC BUDDHIST
RITE OF THE SUN
O Glory be to thee,
O God my God; for I behold
Thee in the Lion Rampant of the dawn:
Thou hast crushed with
thy paw the crouching lioness of Night,
so that she may roar
forth the Glory of Thy Name.
O Glory be to Thee, O
God my God;
for I behold Thee
in the lotus-flower within my heart:
Thou hast emblazoned
my trumpet with the lion-standard,
so that I may blare forth
the Glory of Thy Name.
Amen,
and Amen of Amen,
and Amen of Amen of Amen,
and Amen of Amen of Amen
of Amen.

VERSION 3.0
THE GOLDEN TOPAZ
WRITTEN BY REY DE LUPOS
0. PREPARATION
[In the East, the Stele of Revealing hanging above all other items. On the altar a single white candle or source of light and heat (Geburah), a small bowl or chalice of consecrated water (Chesed), and incense (Tiphareth), frankincense or related solar incense preferably. These items to be arranged in a descending triangle (single point to the west), with the candle at the top left angle, water at the top right angle and the incense at the bottom (middle). Within the triangle should be placed some visible image of the Great Work, such as a statue of Ra Hoor Khuit or Buddha, as symbolic representations of the Holy Guardian Angel. Additionally, on the altar may be placed any images of the Teacher (i.e. Guru/Lama), fresh flowers, and fresh food offerings.
After the Altar is prepared and all is ready, perform the Purging of the Stale Breath followed by the Thelemic Rousing of the Citadels.
I. OPENING
[All participants are seated in meditative postures. When ready, the Adytum should be opened by whatever ritual methods the Officiant sees fit. At a minimum, the Star Sapphire, Diamond Mandala or LBRP should be performed. Then:]
Officiant: [Faces East and
performs prostrations (3x) three times. Invokes the Divine One as
appropriate for attuning to the current of Thelema, and takes Refuge in
the Triple Gem of Buddhism by whatever formula is desired.]
Officiant: Nu is my
Refuge [raising arms slightly]
As Hadit my
Light [continuing to raise arms]
And Heru-Ra-Ha
is the Strength, Force, Vigour of my arms.
[Arms are now raised outstretched. Cross arms over chest, right over left. When complete, turns to face the assembly:]
[Strikes tingsha/Bell once *] Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
All: Love is the law, love under will.
[Chant (3x):]
A KA
DUA
TUF UR BIU
BI A’A
CHEFU
DUDU
NER AF AN NUTERU
II. REFUGE AND DEDICATION OF INTENTION
Officiant: We take refuge in the Buddha, Hadit!
All: I am the flame
that burns in every heart of man, and in the core of every star.
I am
Life, and the giver of Life,
yet therefore is the knowledge of me the knowledge of death.
Officiant: We take refuge in the Dharma, Nuit!
All: I am known to ye by my name Nuit, and to him by a secret name which I will give him when at last he knoweth me. Since I am Infinite Space, and the Infinite Stars thereof, do ye also thus. Bind nothing! Let there be no difference made among you between any one thing & any other thing; for thereby there cometh hurt. I give unimaginable joys on earth: certainty, not faith, while in life, upon death; peace unutterable, rest, ecstasy; nor do I demand aught in sacrifice.
Officiant: We take refuge in the Sangha, Ra Hoor Khuit!
All: Abrogate are all rituals, all ordeals, all words and signs. Ra-Hoor-Khuit hath taken his seat in the East at the Equinox of the Gods. I am the Hawk-Headed Lord of Silence & of Strength…There is a secret door that I shall make to establish thy way in all the quarters, so that thy light is in me; & its red flame is as a sword in my hand to push thy order.
Officiant: I am the Snake that giveth Knowledge & Delight and bright glory, and stir the hearts of men with drunkenness. Beauty and strength, leaping laughter and delicious languor, force and fire, are of us.
All: Lord secret and most holy, source of life, source of love, source of liberty, be thou ever constant and mighty within us, force of energy, fire of motion; with diligence let us ever labour with thee, that we may remain in thine abundant joy. ? (Liber XV—Collects)
Officiant: Then
in the might of the Lion did I formulate unto myself that holy and formless
fire, which darteth and flasheth through the depths of the Universe.
At the touch of the Fire
Qadosh the earth melted into a liquor clear as water.
At the touch of the Fire
Qadosh the water smoked into a lucid air.
At the touch of the Fire
Qadosh the air ignited, and became Fire.
At the touch of the Fire
Qadosh, O Lord, the Fire dissipated into Space.
At the touch of the Fire
Qadosh, O Lord, the Space resolved itself into a Profundity of Mind.
At the touch of the Fire
Qadosh the Mind of the Father was broken up into the brilliance of our
Lord the Sun. At the touch of the Fire Qadosh the Brilliance of our
Lord was absorbed in the Naught of our Lady of the Body of the Milk of
the Stars.
Then only was the Fire Qadosh
extinguished, when the Enterer was driven back from the threshold.
And the Lord of Silence
was established upon the Lotus flower. -- (Liber ARARITA, 7, 0-9)
All: We call upon Thee, O
Living God, radiant with illuminating Fire. O Unseen Parent of the Sun!
Pour forth Thy Light giving power and energize thy Divine Spark. Enter
into this flame and let it be agitated by the breaths of thy Holy Spirit.
Manifest thy power and open for me the Temple of Heru Ra Ha which is within
this Fire! Manifest Thy Light for my regeneration, and let the breadth,
height, fullness and crown of the Solar Radiance appear, and may the God
within shine forth! -- FROM THE COMTE DE GABALIS
III. FORMULATION OF THE LIGHT
Officiant: This shall regenerate the world (+) the little world my sister, my heart & my tongue, unto whom I send this kiss.
All: Within the embrace of Light, Life, Love and Liberty that is the Law of Thelema, beneath the Starry Canopy of Heaven that is Nuit, until attaining the Heart of Enlightenment, we aspire towards the accomplishment of the Great Work, the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel.
Officiant: [Strikes tingsha/bell 1x)
All: Thou that art One, our Lord in the Universe the Sun, our Lord in ourselves whose name is Mystery of Mystery, uttermost being whose radiance enlightening the worlds is also the breath that maketh every God even Death to tremble before Thee--By the Sign of Light (+) appear Thou glorious upon the throne of the Sun. -- (Liber XV)
[The Assembly gathers around the altar and intones Pranava (AOM), visualizing the radiance of the supernals descending upon the Altar. When finished:]
Officiant: Unity uttermost
showed!
I adore the might
of Thy breath
Supreme and terrible
God,
Who makest the gods
and death
To tremble before
Thee: —
I, I adore thee!
IV. THE GOLDEN TOPAZ OF LIBERATION
Officiant: [strikes tingsha/bell 1x]:
The unsurpassed, profound,
wonderful Law
Is rarely to be met
in myriads of aeons.
Now we are about
to see, hear, receive, and keep it.
[Announces the liturgical/dharma reading. This is a selection from any of the canon of the Thelemic Holy Books, as well as any pertinent Buddhist texts. Also, japa recitation of the Aka Du A mantram 666 times can be substituted for the reading.
Then silent meditation is directed towards the extension of Light for healing. On each inhalation, participants should visualize streams of radiant white light pouring into their bodies, cleansing and empowering them. On each exhalation, the light is transformed into rose-gold radiance at the heart center and then projected back out into the universe in all directions, cleansing, healing, and inspiring all sentient beings. The meditation should be no less than 5 minutes. When done:]
Officiant: I have burnt within thee as a pure flame without oil. In the midnight I was brighter than the moon; in the daytime I exceeded utterly the sun; in the byways of thy being I inflamed, and dispelled the illusion.--(Liber 65, V, 9)
Every breath, every word,
every thought, every deed is an act of love with Thee. -- (Liber Liberi
Vel Lapidis Lazuli, V,22.)
V. FINAL BLESSING AND DEDICATION OF MERIT
Officiant: I believe in one secret and ineffable LORD; and in one Star in the Company of Stars of whose fire we are created, and to which we shall return; and in one Father of Life, Mystery of Mystery, in His name CHAOS, the sole vice-regent of the Sun upon the Earth; and in one Air the nourisher of all that breathes. And I believe in one Earth, the Mother of us all, and in one Womb wherein all men are begotten, and wherein they shall rest, Mystery of Mystery, in Her name BABALON. And I believe in the Serpent and the Lion, Mystery of Mystery, in His name BAPHOMET. And I believe in, Light, Life, Love and Liberty, the Word of whose Law is Thelema. --(Liber XV)
All: O secret of secrets that art hidden in the being of all that lives, not Thee do we adore, for that which adoreth is also Thou. Thou art That, and That am I. --(Liber XV)
To this do we dedicate merit
for ourselves and the benefit of all sentient beings.
May we attain to the perfect
intention of Love under Will.
Officiant: [Goes to East of altar, facing West, over the altar elements, and invokes:]
Thou who art I, beyond all
I am,
Who hast no nature
and no name,
Who art, when all
but thou are gone,
Thou, center and
secret of the Sun,
Thou hidden spring
of all things known
And unknown, thou aloof,
alone,
Thou, the true fire
within the reed
Brooding and breeding,
source and seed,
Of Life, Love, Liberty
and Light,
Thou beyond speech
and beyond sight,
Thee I invoke, my
faint fresh fire
Kindling as my intents
aspire.
Thee I invoke, abiding
One,
Thou, center and
secret of the Sun,
And that most holy
mystery,
Of which the vehicle am
I.
Appear most awful
and most mild,
As it is lawful,
to thy child!
[Officiant partakes of Eucharist by first dipping right middle finger in the water and anointing forehead, then holding hands over the candle flame or source of heat and light, and finally smelling the incense while making a final silent dedication and prayer.]
All: [Each person in turn is invited to say a prayer or give offerings at the altar, and partake of the Eucharist. When done:]
Officiant: May the Lord of Light, Life, Love and Liberty bring all sentient beings to the accomplishment of their True Wills, the Great Work of Enlightenment, the Summum Bonum, True Wisdom and Perfect Happiness.
All: (Intone once) ABRA-HAD-ABRA
Officiant: So mote it be !
