High Priestess by Wizardiaoan
A NAMELESS GODDESS
by Kaulananda
the goddess seizes me
and my soul is torn away
I am paralyzed
she offers me no choice
a vision appears
a young woman
weeping hysterically, inconsolable
waving her arms at nothing
she screams to ward off phantoms
and me
though I do not, cannot go near
she screams
twisting
struggling
her body crushed beneath an unknown
weight
forever
defeated
endlessly reborn
there is terrible laughter
and all disappears
the coldest eyes I have ever seen
stare through me
an old widow
bent, dwarvish
ancient, dark-skinned, clothed in
black
eternal
she hates me
she destroys me
her eyes so cold
painful
irredeemable
they wither me to dust
her voice is an accusation and a curse
yet it tells me the secret of secrets
that no man may know fully and live
she bends close to what is left of me
and whispers
reluctantly
sadly
yet somehow filled with hope
"Pan is not dead. Pan liveth."
"Pan, Pan, IO Pan!"
there is terrible laughter
and all disappears
the vision shatters
I crash down through wordless aeons
through pale blue sapphire skies
through comfortless visions of sunrise
and awake
