For notes on what the Kleshas are, see notes at the end of this
rite>
Needed: A sacred bowl, Sand, 5 Candles of 5 seperate colors, A Sacred
Space, A Sacred Knife
Time: Twilight. Clean the area. Banish as you wish. Create the
sacred temple/zonule. Meditate on the 5 Kleshas and their actual
meaning in your life.
Then: Meditate on KALI
Place the bowl before you & say:
THIS BOWL IS THE SUPRACONSCIOUS MING
THE SYMBOL AND ACTUALITY OF RECEIVING
UNIVERSAL CONSCIOUSNESS AND WISDOM
Slowly place sand into the bowl & say:
THE SWIRLING PARTICLES OF SAMSARA FILL THE FIVE SENSES
CONFUSING AND DELUDING THE MIND
THE SWIRLING SANDSTORM OF MAYA
THIS FOUNDATION IS THE BASIS OF OUR LIBERATION
Conjure up clear aspects of each of the 5
Kleshas in your personality/life, then:
Place the 5 candles in the sand forming a
5-pointed figure & say:
SPIRIT BECOMES FORM
ENERGY IN MATTER MANIFESTS AS...
EGO! (place first candle)
IGNORANCE! (place second candle)
REPULSION! (place third candle)
ATTACHMENT! (place fourth candle)
CLINGING TO LIFE! (place fifth candle)
Pause before lighting each candle & say:
OM!
WITH THE LIGHT OF WILL, KNOWLEDGE & ACTION
THE THREE SHAKTIS, THREE GUNAS, THREE FACES OF THE GODDESS
THIS KLESHA IS REVEALED TO MY INNER EYE!
Visualize how each Klesha plays out in your life as you light each
candleSee the actions and idiocies you have don and continue to do that
relate to each Klesha with the clear and objective Open Eye of Shive.
When you feel that you truly comprehend one, move on to the next one
and repeat the process until all 5 candles/Kleshas are lit. If done
correctlym this is a long and at times painful process.
When you have truly laid-open all the Kleshas then offer all to Kali Ma
and say:
FROM THE FIVE-FOLD FLAME OF MAYA
THE DARK PANCHATATTVA
UNDERSTANDING IS BORN
FROM THE WOMB OF A JACKAL
A TIGER IS BORN!
FROM THE DARKEST ABYSS
A FLAME IS BORN!
FROM THE DEAD MATTER OF SPACE
A STAR IS BORN!
Pick up the knife and say:
WITH THE SWORD OF KALI-MIND
I CUT THE KNOTS OF KLESHA CHAINS
RELEASING MYSELF FROM THE DELUSIONS
SELF-DESTRUCTION RESTRICTIONS
AND BONGAGE OF:
EGO! (snuff candle with knife blade)
IGNORANCE! (snuff candle with knife blade)
REPULSION! (snuff candle with knife blade)
ATTACHMENT! (snuff candle with knife blade)
CLINGING TO LIFE! (snuff
candle with knife blade)
Meditate in the Darkness.
See all the Kleshas fall away as ashes fly away from a bonfire...
Give up, Give away, Let go of : All.
Jai Ma.
Be free.
When you are ready to end say:
I AM FREE AS I WILL TO BE
I OPEN ALL MY EYES AND SEE.
Svecchachara!
End, banish etc. and say before you go.
May all beings be free of the Chains of the Kleshas!
By my work may this be accomplished!
THE WILL TO LOVE IS THE LAW TO LIVE.
Notes:
THE 5 KELESHAS/ELEMENTS
AIR-
* “Avidya (ignorance) is the misconception of our true reality,
believing that the temporary is eternal, the impure is the pure, and
pleasure to be painful. This false representation of
reality is the root klesha and produces the four others.”
FIRE-
“Asmita (I-am-ness) is the identification of ourselves with our
ego. We create a self-image of ourselves that we believe is
us, but it is not us. This self-image can contain both
external (I am poor) and internal (I am a bad person) false
projections. We become trapped within the projections we
have created of our life.”
WATER-
“Raga (attachment) is the attraction for things that bring satisfaction
to oneself. Our desire for pleasurable experiences creates
mindless actions and blind sighted vision. When we cannot obtain what
we desire, we suffer. When we do obtain what we desire, our
feelings of pleasure soon fade and we begin our search for pleasure
again, becoming trapped in a endless cycle.”
Some see the Ego
as an enemy to be vanquished or to be overcome, I do not. I see the Ego
as just another idea or thing, one that is important to our survival in
many ways, but also not the ultimate Truth of our existence. What the
ultimate truth of YOUR life is is up to you, but we can be sure that
the ego, which ceases tto exist at death, is not ‘it.’
EARTH-
“Dvesha (repulsion) is the opposite of raga, aversion towards things
that produce unpleasant experiences. If we cannot avoid the things we
dislike, we suffer. Even thinking about unpleasant
experiences produces suffering.”
SPIRIT-
“Abhinivesha (will to live) is the deepest and most universal klesha,
remaining with us until our deaths. We know that one day we
will indeed die, yet our fear of death is a deeply buried in our
unconsciousness.”
In the above-mentioned kleshas, we can easily see
how sex and death are part of our ego and deeply entwined with the
concepts of attachment and repulsion, but there is an even deeper
instinctual drive that predates and supercedes the ‘urge to mate,’ this
is an instinctual
drive that even fills organisms that do not need to mate to reproduce,
it is thje urge to survive
“When we train in letting go of thinking that anything-including
ourselves-is either good or bad, we open our minds to practice with
forgiveness and humor. And we practice opening to a compassionate space
in which good/bad judgments can dissolve. We practice letting go of our
idea of a "goal" and letting go of our concept of "progress," because
right there, in that process of letting go, is where our hearts open
and soften-over and over again.”
