IN MEMORIA

100 + dead in Tibet

“Whether the Chinese government admits it or not, there is a problem. The problem is a nation with ancient cultural heritage is actually facing serious dangers,”  “Whether intentionally or unintentionally, some kind of cultural genocide is taking place.” - The Dalai Lama

Gary Gygax, who co-created the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons and helped start the role-playing phenomenon,
died recently at his  home in Lake Geneva. He was 69.

Many of you have probably heard that Gary Gygax, creator of Dungeons & Dragons, recently kicked off at 69. Aside from giving a lot of people a lot of fun, D&D was a huge occult gateway for a lot of folks who wound up in the majikal and wiccan revivals, so I guess all those concerned parents were right......D&D also had a big influence on movies and formed a lot of the gaming structure that has evolved into the addiction to computer games (that have apparently replaced using your own imagination for good old honest unmediated masturbation) so I just thought someone should mention his passing here....

             ~ Shade

Brahman creates the game of life by breaking Himself into parts that undergo transformation and extinction.
Yet while he takes on all the roles required by the game, He also always remains free of the game and intact as Brahman.

Sad news from zone 1 today -- Sir Edmund Hillary, the conqueror of Mount
Everest, and New Zealand's favorite son, went on to his Greater Feast at age
  88.  Not only was he the first man, along with Sherpa guide Tenzing Norgay,
to stand on the roof of the world, he was also known for his expeditions to
the South Pole, where he was a member of the team that reached the South
Pole overland, the second to do so after Robert Scott.

So here, really, we already have a link between zones 1 and 12 -- the heroic
spirit of "Ed", as he preferred to be called.  A certain other mountain
climber we all know, "Al", is known for kicking Sherpas down the slopes.
Hillary is known for his philanthropic work for the Sherpa people of the
Himalayas, raising funds for schools and hospitals.  This Wanderer of the
Waste -- the top and bottom of the world where no man can live, also had a
heart as big as the world.  Saint Edwin had, I think, perspective.  As
heroic as he was, it wasn't just about Ed; it was about what he could do
because he was Ed -- "the quintessential Kiwi".

Sir Edmund was one of those rare individuals who teach us all that we can be
conquerors of seemingly impossible human goals as individuals, and still
bring that heroic spirit back to change and improve the "real world".  I
can't help but think of him as an astronaut, and psychonaut, bravely going
up, down, and OUT, to find the heart that is within.

According to Reuters, Sir Arthur C. Clarke died today.

His three laws, especially the third, are often quoted today in a variety of circumstances:

When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.
The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
His passing saddens me but he was not a young man. I’ll ponder his gifts to us as an author whenever I look at my bookshelves.

I am sorry to note that Christopher Hyatt, a well-known
Thelemite and New Falcon Press author, has recently passed on...

Sad news, I've enjoyed a number of his works and often found his perspective and approach a very refreshing change to other authors in the field.
Sex Magick, tantra and Tarot which he co-authored with Duquette I've found one of the most enduringly useful instructions for working with the HGA. May he rest in peace in the halls of amenta.

"Three thousand miles over the ocean
Three thousand light years from the land of surprising sun
East is east and west is west
The twain shall meet
East is west and west is east
Let it be complete

Three thousand miles over the ocean
Three thousand light years from the land of the morning star

Here you Are"
