INTRODUCTION
Greetings &
Welcome, To the second
issue of the second volume of SILVER STAR!
As the heated dog-days of summer daze us, as the dog-star Sirius/Sothis
is exalted as in the ancient times when her rising heralded the
annual flooding of the Nile River which gave life to Egypt, the heat is
on our planet Earth. Wars and crises abound, the Gulf is poisoned with
oil, and the four elements of magick seem to be wildfires, floods,
tornados and earthquakes. So it goes. Same as it ever was. We talking
hairless apes will survive, endure, evolve and prevail. Perhaps we
could show a little Compassion to one another along the Way...
...and a good place to start might be Haiti, a country whose troubles
are legend and legion. Her indigenous inhabitants were driven nearly to
extinction in the first forty years of European colonization, and the
ships of African slaves who replaced them endured unspeakable
conditions; yet they remembered the gods and spirits of their
homelands. The traditions of many tribes were syncretized with
Christianity, and the Loa were hidden behind the masks of saints, but
we should always remember that it was the magical tradition of Voudon
that led them to defeat Napoleon's armies in what is probably the only
truly successful slave rebellion in history. They have never been
forgiven for this. The Spanish, French and Americans have all followed
criminally racist policies designed to seize the wealth of their nation
(yes, sugar is an addiction) for centuries, in a long series of coups,
interventions and puppet dictatorships. The USA has repeatedly sent in
the Marines and the missionaries, who have often resorted to force,
burning their drums and temples and even lynching the priests and
priestesses. Voudon, despite decades of horrible zombie films, is in
fact an ancient, legitimate, and deeply spiritual religion which has
served the
people and communities
of Haiti for centuries. It has always been central to their culture,
art and music,
and the western media campaign of demonization has been appalling.
Their
most recent blow has been the massive earthquake which destroyed the
capital Port-au-Prince, and conditions for those refugees remain
terrible. There are an estimated 220,000 dead and 1.2 million still
homeless. I would like to take this moment to urge the members of the
magical community to send whatever aid they can to our brethren; it
seems astounding that one of the poorest countries in the world should
be so close to our shores...
Having said that, I hope that Magick will continue to be what it has
always been: the continual revolution, the cutting edge of human
thought, the open eye that seeks to see beyond the horizon, that
expands the outer limits. The Art of Magick is the Origin of Science,
the womb of words and numbers and music, the alchemy that has become
medicine and metallurgy, the astrology that has become astronomy and
physics, the hermetics that birthed philosophy and psychology. We are
evolving, ever stranger and more human, in a universe we find ever more
miraculous. From the depths of the shadows, we bring forth light;
rejecting the conventional, reimagining ourselves, we become unique.

Cincinnati, very appropriately, since Nema's first transmissions of the
Maat Current were published by the legendary Cincinnati Journal of
Ceremonial Magick in the 1970s.

Welcome to
Silver Star: A Journal of New Magick. It is being presented to you in
free e-zine format. As your
interest and our resources permit, our ultimate goal is to also release
it in printed form.
WHAT:
This unique
Journal of Mysteries is totally eclectic, with a focus on serious
practical and theoretical essays, fiction, rituals, art and poetry that
all express The High Art: those countless aspects of magick and the
alchemy of the 'Great Work'. The material herein is primarily, although
not limited to, the realm of Thelema. This means operating on the
principle of love under will. Other terms such as Tantrik, Shamanic,
Chaotic, Wiccan, Voudon and so on may also apply. The Will to Love is
the Law
to Live. In the end,
Silver Star is what our contributors and readers choose to make of it.
WHO:
While being in
a sense a magickal child of The Horus/Maat Lodge, Silver Star is not
limited in any way to being a 'house organ' for the Lodge. Silver Star
seeks to provide an open source and forum for all serious Adepts who
will to share with their Brothers and Sisters the work of the Art
Magick. A closed system dies. We seek to help inspire the metaphysical
knowledge of the New Gnosis as an open system. Our simple goal: The
magickal evolution of humanity.
HOW:
You send
us wonders and we will help spread them. Omnia Veritas (everything is
true) . If you like what you see here, then we want your work as well.
All arcane materials are acceptable from all types of open minded
people, belonging to any and all (or absolutely no) orders, lodges,
circles and so on. Sincerity, scholarship, and creativity are our
desired qualities. Silver Star seeks to represent the widest possible
spectrum of Magick and its practice as it is evolving now. Most
disciplines have a Journal that transcends politics and becomes a
serious forum for the whole community, a free space where ideas and
knowledge can be shared. This is ours.
WHY:
Because we can.
Many of us marvel at the current proliferation of magick everywhere.
Who has not witnessed the fertile chaos of these uncertain times? Who
has not found the tools and information necessary to create conscious
change in abundant supply? Cyberspace and the tools thereof provide
powerful ways to effect change with Will. We can Evolve. Each one of us
now lives in a world where critical choices must be made. As the old
song goes: "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you
make." We are united in one simple ideal: Love IS the Law. Do you truly
know how much your heart weighs?
WHERE:
HERE and NOW!
This is all that matters. We are scattered about the globe, a beautiful
'net of stars', yet in this magick circle of cyberspace we are
together. Let us gather in love and will to share our visions and
affirm our unity. This is a time of great changes: a new consciousness
is rising phoenix-like from the ashes of a restrictive age. Let it take
flight here.

titles of your pieces and the names you want to be known by! The journal
often has text centered on the pages, one reason for this is the
formats in which we receive submissions, often this is the best way we
can display them on the web page without intensive editing. Note that I do
NOT edit for style, content, grammar or typos, I spend my effort
getting it up online; PLEASE
send ready-to-print materials. In other words, all typos and
